A Forgotten Land Remembered, 2025
Dartmoor, Devon
A forgotten land remembered
My feet had brought me here just as much as my longing for peace
A wayward harmony tethered the depths of my being
As I treaded along the shallow pathways a space within me was dying,
replaced by the fullness of existence
Brought to life by the angelic; the crystalline whisper of a hushed wind amid a mellow sun
I began to capture the entirety of belonging, the wordless connection of disappearing amongst the elements
Becoming that which you sense, and not out of choice or will, but from the vastness of love
As I melted into the landscape, and felt my edges blend into vibrancy
A vitality of primordial being soothed each cell within
and I lay upon the ground, amidst the remembrance of unity

I took a turn along the rocky path, to the left of me, some distance away, a flowing stream, and in front the longing to be atop the large jagged stones that towered in the distance.
I’d only been walking a matter of minutes, but already I felt the gentle mist of the mystical.
A world drew me in, captivated in the intimacy of rootedness, of ancient stillness amongst the wild wind and bright sun, it was a world of belonging.
Deafened by the sound of the elements, I looked down at my feet and acknowledged each step, and gave thankful attention to the majesty of moving upon the surface of the earth.
As I approached the peak of the horizon, I observed the multitude of rocks and boulders splayed out across the terrain beyond me, seemingly placed by an artists hand in some sort of symbolic formation to, I imagined, reveal a hidden message in the landscape for future civilisations to decipher.
Was there anything to grasp from this elemental hieroglyph?
While I stood with this question for a moment I noticed a little deeper into the valley, heading back down towards the stream, a small woodland.
With an impulse that was impossible to ignore, I stepped forward with purpose.
The wind was now hitting me face on, but undeterred I carried the wind within, and cradled the fire of the sun, and felt the determination of the elements guide me towards where I was effortlessly heading.
As I neared the small, dense forest I soon was able to see each tree individually, and felt myself come closer to a moment of self, of reflection, and of silence.
I sat at what felt like an entrance, a wild arch of leaves and branches, and peeked through to see a myriad of stones and trees all lovingly huddled together.
I breathed in through the soul of the land, focused on a primordial channel of connection, while all sense was awoken.
Soon, I was in a space of indescribability. Not because it was too much or too little of something to describe, but because it was beyond the rational, language had no place or reason, it was a space of feeling, of rapturous frequency, of vibrational vitality.
It was a space of totality, where my senses could express the vastness of interconnectedness, and the scent and radiance of existence danced a soulful and primal emergence.
